Description
WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?
The Hand/Head patient Assist Alarm is a thin pad (sometimes called a paddle), approximately 14cm x 9cm x 0.8cm / 5.51″ × 3.54″ × 0.31″ – thin enough to be placed under the patient’s hand so they can activate an alarm for assistance. It can also be placed close to the patient’s head, so they can roll their head to activate an alarm for assistance. It may also be possible to use the Alarm underneath other parts of the body, like a heel, elbow, etc.
WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?
Designed for people such as spinal injury or burns patients who cannot move to activate a Nurse Call Button. It may also help non-verbal Stroke patients.
BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The Hand/Head patient Assist Alarm can be plugged into a stand alone Alarm Box, or it can plug directly into a hospital Nurse Call System. By using the Double Adaptor provided, a normal Nurse Call Button can also be plugged in for use by other people.
- Place the Alarm under the patient’s hand so if they roll their hand and press down a little with the fatty part of the thumb or behind the little finger, they can call for assistance
- Alternatively, the Alarm can be placed next to the head so if they roll their head a little, they can call for assistance. Experiment with the Alarm on either side of their head to get the correct position.
- It may be necessary to experiment with the position to make sure the patient can activate the Alarm. Always test the Alarm with the patient after setting up so that they understand how to use it.
- If the cord is tucked under a mattress, make sure it will not get tangled in the mechanism when the bed or head rest is raised or lowered.
Arm Rest Sleeve (444HH-SLEEVE): After some time, a patient may be transition to a wheelchair. An Armrest Cover with non-slip material underneath and a strap to secure the Hand/Head patient Assist Alarm to an armrest is available. The Alarm can then be plugged into a Alarm Box.
