Our Sewing Experience

We are primarily a specialised sewing company.

Because we make our own products, we have extensive knowledge built up since 1987 covering:

  • Materials
  • Foam
  • Thread
  • Tapes
  • Elastics
  • Pattern making

Our sewers are experts in making our products, and we have a robust quality system in place to ensure the products that go out the door are in a perfect condition.

Repairs

We are happy to quote on repairing any ‘sewn-together’ product that is damaged or worn, including slings from Pelican, or other brands.

Our experience sewers use their knowledge to advise when something is not safe to repair, and has come to the end of it’s useful life.

Sling Inspection and Sling Repair Service

Pelican has been designing and manufacturing patient lifting slings for over 35 years. Our slings comply with Australian and International Standards, and can be used on most brands of lifting hoists.

We can inspect and repair both Pelican and non-Pelican Slings. We charge a small inspection fee for any slings we inspect, which covers the time required to fully inspect the sling for:

  • Workmanship
  • Stitching
  • Inspecting any previous repairs done on the sling
  • General wear and tear

Minimal repairs may be done to slings without charging a repair fee. This will be decided by our repair staff when they inspect the sling.

Although we may repair a sling, it is important to remember that the original sling material will continue to deteriorate and the sling will not be ‘as new’ after the repair work.

We often receive other manufacturer’s slings to repair, as we understand that not all sling companies have their own repairs department. It may be perfectly safe to do a repair on a sling, rather than forcing the customer to purchase a brand new sling. We work out the repair charge based on what repairs need to be done. If a sling is found to no longer be safe to use, the customer will be informed that the sling has been condemned, as the safety of the sling user is the top priority.

Custom-Made Products

We quote on about 500 custom-made products each year, and we are happy to look at any special requirements you may have. Please provide as much information as you can, and include a quick diagram or sketch if possible. We then discuss your requirements within Pelican and get back to you with a quote, and possibly some other options. Here is a short video showing what to expect from Pelican regarding our custom-made products process.
