WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?
Hip Protectors are worn to help reduce the risk of hip injuries and fractures in the event of a fall. The Pelican Hip Protector Pants come in female and male styles and a range of sizes. The pants are made from a stretchy, moisture-wicking micromesh material. The male style also includes a fly. Soft foam pads are inserted into pockets on the sides of the pants.
Features of the Pelican Hip Protector Pads:
- Soft, flexible, impact-resistant foam that becomes more supple when warmed by body temperature
- 0.5cm / 0.2” soft breathable foam layer that holds the sealed internal impact-absorbing foam away from the skin, allowing airflow
- Large pad size to provide coverage over the greater trochanter (hip bone)
The Hip Protector Pad options are:
- SuperSoft Washable Pads (179SSW): Our most popular fully washable pad
- SuperSoft Washable Pads T5 (179SSWT5): A heavier-duty option that is thicker than the standard SuperSoft Washable pads
The foam pads can be sewn into the pockets of the pants if required. Please contact us if you require this service.

Air dry in the shade. Alternatively, tumble dry on a cool temperature and make sure the drum is cool.

What type of Pads are best?
By far our most popular Pads are the white SuperSoft Washable Pads (Item # 179SSW). They can be washed, and are generally well-accepted by a person wearing them because they are not too thick. The white SuperSoft Washable T5 pads are slightly thicker, offering better impact absorption. They can also be washed. The green SuperSoft Pads are good for situations where the pads do not need to be washed. All of the Pelican Pads warm up once they have been next to the skin, so they are all comfortable. All Pelican Pads were found to reduce a controlled force to under the breakage threshold under university testing.
What size of Pants is best?
For people who fit into different size categories we recommend selecting the slightly looser fit. The Hip Protector Pads are big enough to offer good protection without having to be very tightly worn.
