The Pelican Heat/Cold Pack – General Purpose is filled with lupin seeds which effectively retain both heat or cold. They are lightweight with a low odour after heating, compared to wheat. Special sizes can be made to order.

Heat therapy may help relieve aches and stiffness, while cold therapy may help ease swelling and pain. Both heat and cold therapies may help ease symptoms of arthritis. Some people may use the Pack for cold therapy to reduce swelling, then after a day or two, use it for heat therapy to relax their muscles.

Always wear clothing between your bare skin and the Heat/Cold Pack. This is to create a barrier to help prevent burns or frostbite and to keep the Pack clean from things like sweat, moisturiser, etc.

HEAT PACK

For muscle pain or stiffness. Heat therapy dilates blood vessels and increases blood flow, delivering nutrients and oxygen to promote healing. It can also enhance mobility and relieve muscle and joint stiffness.

To Heat in a Microwave: Place the Pack on a clean plate to prevent contamination. Ensure the Pack is as flat as possible, with the filling evenly distributed, and position it in the centre of the microwave. Due to variations in microwave power, start with 30-seconds and add 30-second increments as required to a maximum of 1-minute & 30-seconds (based on 1,000W microwave), checking the Pack each time until the desired heat is reached. Do not overheat. If you smell burning or see smoke, stop heating immediately. Carefully remove the plate from the microwave, and do not pick up the Pack with bare hands right away, as it may be very hot.

The Australian Standard for Microwavable Heat Packs (AS/NZS 5116:2016) recommends limiting application to no longer than 5 minutes at a time. Only reheat the Pack after it has cooled down to room temperature.

WARNING: Pregnant individuals should avoid applying heat directly to the abdomen, as it could raise internal temperatures and potentially affect the developing foetus. Avoid placing the pack directly on your belly unless advised by your doctor.

COLD PACK

For acute injuries, such as sprains (within 2-3 days). For persistent pain, even at rest, or if you have re-injured a previous injury. Cold therapy constricts blood vessels, reducing blood flow and swelling, while also providing a numbing effect for pain relief.

To Cool in a Freezer: Place the Pack in a clean polythene bag and freeze for about three hours before use. Apply the Cold Pack to the affected area every couple of hours for 10-15 minutes at a time.

Instruction Guide Only. Before using any of these Packs, we recommend consulting with a medical professional.

  • This Heat/Cold Pack is intended for use only on the designated areas as specified in the instructions. Misuse may lead to injury or irritation.
  • Never use a Heat Pack as a hot water bottle in bed as this traps the heat under the covers and may cause a fire.
  • Avoid prolonged use of either heat or cold therapy to prevent skin irritation or damage.
  • Discontinue use if you experience discomfort, irritation, or unusual sensations.

WARNING: Pregnant individuals should avoid applying heat directly to the abdomen, as it could raise internal temperatures and potentially affect the developing foetus. Avoid placing the pack directly on your belly unless advised by your doctor.

IMPORTANT: Keep instructions with your Pack—READ before every use. NOT RECOMMENDED for people who may have reduced awareness of temperature or feeling in their skin, e.g. diabetics, people with nerve damage, or people with an impairment that prevents them recognising they may be burnt.
