The Bed Side Helper is not a Restraint. It is an aid to daily living, designed not to entrap Patients.
The Bed Side Helper is used to help people getting in and out of bed. It reminds the Patient where the edge of the mattress is and prevents them from rolling out of bed. It can be used on almost any size of bed that has a separate mattress and base section. Make the bed as normal, leaving the Helper in place, or remove it during the day. This product may help people suffering a proprioceptive condition.
The Bed Side Helper’s frame is made from a strong poly-carbonate plastic that is easy to wipe clean. There are two Cover options:
Thick Padded Cover This special thick Cover helps protect people who may have an epileptic seizure or have some other uncontrollable forceful movements. It consists of thick convoluted foam with a soft velour outer cover that has a pocket on the outside for storing small items. For safety, the Helper’s hand slot is covered to prevent a hand or wrist getting caught.
The Bed Side Helper is quick to place securely under a mattress, and has two height settings. A Health Care Professional can help determine the most suitable position and height. They may place the Helper near the shoulder, elbow, or leg. More than one Bed Side Helper can be used, for instance one near the shoulders and another near the legs, with a gap in the middle for getting in and out of bed.

Alarm Pad Alerts Carers that the Patient is leaning against the Helper, or if they are hitting it during a seizure. It can be used with a Touch Alarm Box or a Nurse Call Paging System. The Alarm Pad can also be used by a Patient to alert a Carer that they need assistance if they are not able to operate a Nurse Call Button.
Security Strap with Loop Provides extra support if someone is moving a lot in bed and hitting the Bed Side Helper with their arms or legs. The Security Strap is attached to the Helper and the Loop is lassoed to the frame on the opposite side of the bed.
Security Strap with Disc Provides extra support on ensemble beds which do not have bed frame rails. The plastic Disc attachment is placed upright between the mattress and the base to act as an anchor.
Floor Extension When the Bed Side Helper is used with a soft ensemble style base with a mattress on top, it may press into the base when the Patient is pushing down on the Helper. To prevent this, the Floor Extension is fastened to the Bed Side Helper with the bottom of the Extension resting on the floor.
