Having to hold a Patient’s leg or foot when they are sitting in a chair or on the side of a bed can be a heavy manual handling task for a Carer putting on compression stockings, treating wounds, foot ulcers, bunions, or bandaging, etc. By using the Portable Leg/Foot Support, a leg can be held in place at different heights while the Carer treats the Patient. The Support may also be a useful aid for podiatrists during foot examinations.

Features

  • Four height settings – suitable for Patients who cannot lift their legs high
  • The 1.25kg Frame is made from a strong but lightweight plastic that can be wiped clean
  • The Frame packs flat and a special bag is available to carry the Frame and Slings, etc.
  • The Single Patient Use Sling is made from durable German-made vinyl material
  • The bright yellow material makes it easy to see any contamination on the Sling
  • The Sling can be wiped clean and left at a Patient’s home for infection control

How To Order

From the drop-down menu, you will need to order:

A Frame – This is the plastic frame that the Slings attach to. The Frame comes with one free Sling, and extra Slings should be ordered separately.

A pack of Slings – Slings come in packs of five (5). Carers may like to order more than one pack of Slings so that they can leave a Sling at a Patient’s house to avoid cross infection.

Optional Accessories:

Img 1525Padded Sleeve – Designed to slide over the Sling. It is made from a soft vinyl material that is Heat Sealed for infection control. The internal memory foam helps with pressure relief and may help prevent deep vein thrombosis.

Bag – Strong nylon with an adjustable shoulder strap. Two large pockets to hold Slings, Padded Sleeves, surgical gloves, etc. Useful to take the Support to a Patient’s home and keep both hands free to carry other items, open doors, etc.

To Use

Rotate the middle section 90° and slot it downwards over the lower section. Tighten down the clear plastic nut to keep the base of the frame stable whilst in use. Attach the Sling to the appropriate hooks on the uprights so it will be the correct height to be comfortable for the Patient.

See the YouTube video for a demonstration of various ways the Support can be placed underneath a Patient’s leg. If the Carer is applying a bandage or compression stockings, the Support can be re-positioned to a different part of the leg or foot during the task to make it easy to access different areas of the leg.

We recommend using a Pelican Kneeling Support as an OH&S product when using the Portable Leg/Foot Support, as it makes it easier to kneel and stand up again. The Kneeling Support is made from a very strong foam block with a soft foam top. The wipeable Heat Sealed vinyl cover has a non-slip base. There is a vinyl handle on the side to make it easy to carry.

Have guidance from your facility’s Infection Control department as they may override our recommendations.

Frame, Slings, Padded Sleeve: Wipe clean with a neutral cleaner, such as Sterri-Matt. Do not use chlorine, bleach, or a scrubbing brush.

Bag: Hand or machine wash up to 80°C (176°F). Cool tumble dry or air dry.

Ensure all products are dry before using or storing.

Weight Testing: Slings undergo testing at 51kg for 20 minutes. Minor distortion at the ends of the Sling slots is normal and acceptable.

The HDPE plastic frame may bend slightly under load but will not break. Although the outer surface may mark easily and may appear worn even when new, the overall benefits of using this durable material outweigh these minor disadvantages.
