Description
WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?
The Bed Rail Protectors – Heat Sealed – buckle are made from a medical grade vinyl material to give a wipeable surface for hygiene and infection control. This Bed Rail Protector is suitable for a large variety of bed rails and fits rails up to 168cm long.
The foam padding will completely cover the inside of the bed rail, but leave the outside partially open so carers can still access the bed controls on models where they are mounted on the rails.
WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?
This product may help people who may be at risk of entrapment in the bed rails. Entrapment may include getting their arm, leg or possibly their head caught in the rails.
BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Place the Bed Rail Protectors over the bed rail, pulling them down between the mattress and the rail. The three straps with buckles can then be fastened around the rail to help prevent patients from removing the Protectors.
Once placed on the rails, it can be positioned near the patient’s head or lower down the bed rail to protect their feet. When the bed rail is lowered, take off the Protectors and store behind the bed or somewhere out of the way.

Important
WARNING: When bed rails are used, it is possible for people to be entrapped between the edge of the mattress and the bed rail. This may also happen if a Bed Rail Protector is being used. This entrapment can lead to death due to positional asphyxiation, so it is very important to do a risk assessment for the patient and regularly check that they do not manoeuvre themselves into a dangerous position. This entrapment can happen if an old mattress with very soft sides is on the bed, if a mattress that is too narrow is on the bed, or if an Air Cell type mattress is used.
For any heat-sealed product, make sure there are no cuts or damage to the material before using.
Always remove the Bed Rail Protectors before lowering or raising the bed rails.
Consider taking advice from a therapist to make sure this product is suitable for you.
