After having surgery on a shoulder or arm, it may be necessary to sleep with the arm in a Sling. The shoulder joint usually needs to be kept at a suitable angle to aid healing. The Arm Elevation Sleep Cushion is designed to keep an arm in place when sleeping. It may help Patients who have had rotator cuff surgery, broken their arm, or who have had a stroke and suffer from hemiplegia.
The Arm Elevation Sleep Cushion is suitable for use on any size bed. The Cushion is curved to the shape of the abdominal area. It is specially designed to support the arm while side-sleeping. The base of the Cushion has a non-slip material to stop it from being displaced, compared to normal pillows which can dislodge and move out of position during the night. The Cushion can be used for either the left or right arm.
The Cushion can help a Patient sleep on their side, with their arm resting on the soft, convoluted foam arm rest and hand rest. The convolutions help with softness and blood flow. The Patient can also turn onto their back with their arm still in position on the arm rest. If preventing rolling onto the opposite side is important then a special Bed Wedge Convoluted Non-Slip may stop this from happening.
The Cushion can be used with the Patient wearing an Arm Sling & Abductor Pillow after an operation, with a sling alone, or even without an arm sling. The arm can be kept in position by using an Arm Cuff. This may help individuals with carpal tunnel syndrome by preventing them from going into the foetal position.
The Cushion may help people who snore by keeping them on their side to allow better airflow through the nose and mouth.
Accessories included with the Cushion
- An Elbow Abductor – for use if the arm needs abducting when not using an Abductor Pillow with an Arm Sling.
- Two Arm Cuffs – normally only one may be needed for the wrist but if necessary, one can be used for the arm above the elbow.
- A soft velour Back Strap – used if it is necessary to stop the Patient lifting the arm rest.
