Pelican products used by John Bromberger, February 2025

John In Hospital 330pJohn Bromberger, the founder of Pelican, had a laminectomy operation. After the operation, there was a complication in recovery, so it took about eight weeks for him to get back to normal. Here is what he had to say about four products that were beneficial during his recovery:

SLIDE & TURN SHEET

Slide & Turn Sheet“I used this in hospital and when I went home. The Slide & Turn Sheet is made from breathable material, so I could sleep on it overnight. There was no need for me to wait for two nurses to turn me every two hours for pressure care, as I could turn myself easily. In hospital, when I wanted to turn from lying on my back, I would use my legs to lift my bottom off the mattress. But the mattress would also raise up, still touching my bottom, preventing me from turning. After putting the Slide & Turn Sheet on the bed, the top material would slide over the lower material, allowing me to turn onto my side. When turning, I did not need to put any strain on my back, as I could pull on or push against the hospital bed side rails.”

PUDENDAL CHANNEL CUSHION

Pudendal Channel Cushion“When I was in hospital after the operation, I had a lot of pain under my bottom when sitting down. I tried three different types of Pelican pressure relief cushions, but the Pudendal Channel Cushion was the only design that helped. This cushion is made with a combination of softer and firmer foams. It is normally used by men after they have had a prostate operation and ladies who have nerve pain after childbirth.”

BED STEP – TWO STEPS

Getting Out Of Car“When leaving hospital, I had difficulty getting into my SUV, which is higher off the road compared to saloon cars. However, as I have short legs, I could not get into the passenger seat as it was too high. I used the Bed Steps and put them next to the door on the ground to enable me to step onto the lower step first, and then the higher step, so I could get into the passenger seat. The Bed Steps have large, wide surfaces to stand on, but they are very light to pick up and store on the back seat.”

BED SIDE HELPER

Bed Side Helper“There are no bed side rails on my bed at home so I used the Bed Side Helper when getting in and out of bed. I also had the Slide & Turn Sheet on the bed, and when I wanted to turn, I could pull or push on the Bed Side Helper when turning from one side to the other. When getting out of bed, I could hold on to the top of the Helper to stand up, then continue holding it for a minute to allow my blood to circulate before walking.”
