Pelican-Announce - August 2002
I am sorry about the delay in getting this month's Pelican-Announce out to you all, it has been a busy few weeks around here. Thank you for your patience.
We are sorry to say that due to increased raw materials and overhead costs we have had to increase our prices. This increase applies to most of our goods.
We have also changed the description of our Bed Rail Protectors (Items 214 & 214S) from each to a pair, however if you wish to get singular Protectors you still can just stipulate this on the order. There has been no increase in the price of these items.
As some of you may have seen there has been a change to the layout of the Price List so that it is easier to read. We have included drawings of the products to help identify the correct product and size.

Turn Yourself Sheet (Item 583)…
We are currently in the process of making a Turning Sheet for the sufferers of Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Arthritis and other Muscular-skeletal Conditions. The sheet should hopefully enable people with these diseases to turn themselves in bed without as much effort and therefore reduce the pain.
We hope that if the person can turn themselves, it will give them some independence as well as saving a carer from having to do another Manual Handling task.
This product has been tested successfully by some sufferers of MND who normally have great trouble turning themselves in bed. Currently both John's wife and my friend are both using the sheet to help them in bed, John's wife has a broken ankle and my friend has had spinal surgery.

Bed-side Wedges …
The Bed-side Wedges, Item 469, are being used more frequently as an alternative to Bed Rails. The Bed-side Wedges may prevent the patient from rolling out of the bed. As the Wedges can be removed it is easier for the patient to get in and out of bed.

For a laugh…
In a car crash recently a tollbooth was destroyed. Within a few minutes five men arrived on the scene and began to reassemble the Tollbooth using a white, foamy substance and soon the booth was back together. A passerby, fascinated by the process, asked what they had used. One of the men replied "Tollgate Boothpaste."
