Sock-On… **NEW PRODUCT**
The latest addition to the Pelican range of products is the Sock-On (Item #231). The Sock-On allows for easy application of socks. It has a slippery material on the inside next to the foot, and a towelling material on the outside which ‘grips’ the sock. The more independent patient should be able to use this without any help from a carer. To view the instruction sheet please click on the following link.
The old problem of putting on compression stockings has been helped with the Stocking Slider (Item # 154), but this is only for open-toe stockings. We have been trying for over a year to develop an easier way to put on the enclosed-toe stockings. We are now trying another idea that looks encouraging and hopefully we will be able to announce it next month’s Pelican-Announce newsletter. If you would like some more information please send us an email or FreeCall us on 1800 641 577.
Car Access Strap… **NEW PRODUCT**
The Car Access Strap (Item # 592) is the other new product. It is useful for people who can assist in getting themselves out of cars. It attaches to the door frame or handle on the roof just inside the car, and allows for the user to assist in the transfer. Is it a very simple product, but will make getting into, and especially out of cars much easier for patients and carers. This product may be used in conjunction with the Handi Soft Turn Pad mentioned below.
Handi Soft Turn Pad
The Handi-Soft Turn Pad (Item # 519) was introduced about two years ago and it is continuing to sell well. Being made of soft, flexible material, it will mould around the user’s bottom and is very useful when getting in and out of cars and getting onto beds. There are two sides to the Handi-Soft Turn Pad – one is velour and the other is a soft waterproof vinyl. Most of the time it is used so that the person is sitting on the velour, however, if they are incontinent then it can be turned over and the vinyl side used. It can also be used for doing standing turns, although for these it is best to use the normal hard Handi-Turn (Item # 519) as it tends to work a bit better. Click on the following link for more information.
Arm/Wheelchair Lap Cushion
These were more new products introduced about a year ago to help patients who ‘forget’ they should not stand up and walk without assistance. They are more of a ‘reminder’ item rather than a restraint and if used with the right patient, they can replace using a restraint. Click on the following link for more information.
Washing up
For all of our products we recommend washing up to 80?C, and do not tumble dry. It is always best if you can air dry the items. Tumble-drying can damage many man-made materials. Some products, such as the Bed Slide Sheets, will come out of the washing machine virtually dry anyway, so tumble drying is not required. Having said that, there are facilities who tumble dry everything and never have any problems. However, we do not recommend this. Also, please take care when washing the keyhole plate slings, normal slings and restraint belts. It is best if you can contain these products in netting wash bags when washing them, as this will keep the long webbing from being tangled up in the machine.
Just quickly
Some of you may remember Vicki who worked at Pelican a few years ago. After taking a break to have a baby boy, she is now back on a part-time basis. Vicki has a very good rapport with many Pelican customers, and we welcome her back. If you call in the mornings chances are you will speak to her.
We also have another new member of staff. Jeanette has joined Marama and Ineke in the factory. Jeanette has been an Enrolled Nurse in the past and has worked at Silver Chain issuing medical equipment for people being cared for at home. Once again we extend a warm welcome to her, and her past caring experience should help Pelican and our customers.
