Pelican-Announce - July 2002
Price Increase…
Due to a steady increase in the cost of our raw materials over the past year we will have to unfortunately increase the prices of some of our products. This price rise will only be by a small amount and will take place at the beginning of August. However we will honour any quotes made before then for the first few days of the month.
Restraining…
John was at a Nursing Home recently and noticed a Zip-a-Bed on a resident's bed. He noticed that the bottom sheet was not properly secured around the base of the bed. Upon investigation it was discovered that:
- The two buckles were broken
- The sheet itself was upside down on the bed base
- The pulling straps at the head of the bed were "locked" into position by the bed head.
If the Zip-a-Bed had been required in an emergency the nurses would not have got it off the bed without first removing the bed head. Please remember that there are instructions sewn on to the product for reference.
About four years ago we started putting labels on to each restraint and wrote to each customer telling them that we would supply them with a label for each of their restraints. The letter told the staff that they could sew the labels on themselves, or return the goods to us and we would sew them on for them.
In the interests of patient safety restraints should be fastened correctly and any damaged restraints should be withdrawn form use for repair. Please audit any of your restraints you have and please let us know if there are any buckles that need replacing and also any labels that you might need.
Please remember that we send instructions out with all our goods so please do not throw them out as they may be needed in the future for reference.
Just quickly…
- Apparently in its first year of operation only 17 bottles of Coca-Cola were sold.
- On average, 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens every year.
- You are more likely to be killed by a champagne cork than by a poisonous spider.
- The human brain holds between 1 and 7 terabytes (1 and 7 million megabytes) of data.
- When pressured for grazing space, kangaroos have been known to kill competing sheep.
- It takes 42 muscles in your face to frown. It only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and smack someone in the head.
For a laugh…
After a long and serious operation, Lena ended up in a coma. Try as they might, the doctors just couldn't bring her out of it. When her husband Ralph came into the intensive care unit to see her, the doctors gave him the bad news.
"We just can't wake her. It doesn't look good, I'm afraid," the doctor told Ralph in a quiet, somber voice.
Ralph looked at Lena, and with a soft trembling voice, he said, "But doctor, she's so young. She's only 45."
"37," came the weak reply from Lena.
