Pelican-Announce - February 2003Product Updates… Hip Protector Pads… The Hip Protector Pads are now ready for sale. The Pads cost $28.00 a pair, and the pants are available in both male and female styles. The female pants cost $22.00 a pair and the male pants cost $26.00 a pair, but some males may prefer to wear the female style pants with the shorter legs. We have found an American study that found the pads effective, the only trouble was getting the people to wear them! As our Pads do not have a hard outer shell and can be worn when sleeping, we hope they will be better accepted. Click here to view the instruction sheet for sizes click on the link. Bed Fall Mats… The Bed Fall Mats are also ready for sale. Results from US studies have advocated their use and they are expected to become widely used in Australia. This study found the Mats greatly reduced bed fall injuries, and that staff and other residents did not accidentally trip over them. As they are heat sealed they are waterproof and easily cleaned if the mats are soiled. Here are some links to a few US studies. Due to the high cost of producing a completely waterproof heat sealed mat, we have also introduced a less expensive version which has a vinyl cover and single layer of foam inside, and is shown, as opposed to being heat sealed. The single foam should protect the falling patient, but is more spongy to fall on, and the stitching may allow for seepage of urine. However, the cost works out at less than half the price of the heat sealed version. Slide & Turn Sheet Anti Slide Straps… We have introduced an accessory for the Slide & Turn Sheet - the Anti Slide Straps. By 'anchoring' the Slide & Turn Sheet to the bed head, it makes it harder for people who wriggle down the bed to do so. Click here for pictures. Access Sling… We have been developing the PELICAN Access Sling with one particular nursing home that is finding it successful. The Access Sling is fully padded, giving extra comfort for patients when transferring. The sling is very simple to put on, and allows patients to be put into with good posture as the sling lifts patients up in an upright sitting position. Some people can feel uneasy about being lifting in a reclined position, so again the Access Sling will help them. Birthing Mats… Recently we have received inquires for Birthing Mats. We are uncertain as to the demand for Birthing Mats and would appreciate any feedback, suggestions or comments regarding this. Please FreeCall Ben, Tom or John on 1800 641 577. Product Evaluation… Over the last few weeks we have received back a number of the Product Evaluation Forms we sent out. These are very helpful as it allows us to improve our items, but also lets us know what other items carers would like to see on the market. Special Price… We are in the position to sell some Commode Cushions and Back Cushions at HALF PRICE. We made them up as specials for a customer and now have excess stock. They are covered in Mediflex, an anti-bacterial material, which is a stronger material than what we normally use for these items. To take advantage of the deal you will need to purchase at least 1 Commode Cushion (half price cost is $27) AND at least 1 Back Cushion (half price cost is $22). We only have about ten sets left, so this special is based on a first order, first delivered basis and will only be available until stock lasts. During the celebration a fairy appeared. She told them that because they had been such a loving couple all those years, she would give them one wish each. The wife wanted to travel around the world. The fairy waved her wand and Boom! She had the tickets in her hand. Next, it was the husband's turn. He paused for a moment, then said shyly, "Well, I'd like to have a woman 30 years younger than me." The fairy picked up her wand and BOOM!…. He was 90.
