Pelican-Announce – December 2003** NEW ** Stand-Up Bed & Chair Alarms…We are also trialling Alarm Pads that can be placed either on beds or chairs, and they indicate when someone has stood up or got out of bed. There are independent alarms that operate from batteries, as well as alarms that operate through the nurse call system, depending on the call system at the facility. These may alert the nurse's pager indicating the room to go to. These will also allow the normal 'call button' cord to work. Please contact us for more information, or click HERE for more information. ** NEW ** Handi-Walking Sling…We have made some Walking Slings in the past to be used with conventional hoists. They help support the person, but if they cannot continue to weight-bear, the Walking Sling will stop them from falling. As we expect there could be more demand for the Walking Sling to help in rehabilitation, we have now added these to the standard products. Click HERE for more information. ** NEW ** Shoulder Anti-Subluxation & Anti-Rotation Cuff…We are currently developing a new item to help prevent or reduce subluxation. It may be used following Cerebral Insult or Bracial Plexus Lesion. The Cuff is intended to be worn when transferring, sitting, standing and walking. A major feature of the Cuff is that it allows for the arm to be externally rotated. This item is currently under trial and should be ready for sale early next year. Click HERE for more information. Special items we have recently made…We recently made a full bed-length, continuous mesh material item which covered the bed rails that went under the mattress. This was for a client at a hostel in Perth. As opposed to normal Bed Rail Protectors which cover only the bed rails, this continuous mesh covered the gap between the bed frame and the mattress removing the possibilities of arms or legs getting caught. A large Perth hospital asked us to make cytotoxic transport bags. The bags are used for carrying oncological drugs and are currently used for pharmacy departments and on the wards. These bags are made from a very strong and durable plastic material and can be made with a clear 'window' for labelling. If you are interested in purchasing these bags please contact us. Can you help?…We are interested to know if there is a demand for Disposable Towels. They are like a very strong thick tissue and can be used several times before they are disposed. Please let us know if these would be of help to you. Price Increase…For some time now we have been absorbing supplier price increases and keeping our prices the same. The small increases over this time have now forced us to put our prices up. The prices are not a flat percentage rate increase, rather we have looked at each individual item to arrive at a fair increase to cover our costs. Did you know…A Zebra Crossing is a pedestrian crossing marked on a road by broad alternate black and white stripes. Once on the crossing the pedestrian has right of way. A Toucan Crossing is where pedestrians & cyclists share a wide & unsegregated crossing area. A Pelican Crossing is a type of road crossing marked by black-and-white stripes or by two rows of metal studs and consisting of a pedestrian-operated traffic-light system. For a laugh…Why is abbreviation such a long word? Well, that's about all for this month's edition of Pelican-Announce. Remember, if you know anyone who you think might like to be added to the Pelican-Announce list and receive this newsletter, ask them to contact us and I can add their name. Keep in mind that we can now email instruction sheets in pdf format, so let us know if you need any more information on any products. If you ever need any help, advice, or have any comments to make, you can always FreeCall us on 1800 641 577, FreeFax us on 1800 641 477, or email sales@pelicanmanufacturing.com.au We would be happy to hear to from you. Thank you for your orders during 2003. May we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As usual there will be someone at Pelican during the Christmas to New Year holiday. This will enable urgent orders to be delivered. We return to normal staffing on Monday January 5th. Regards, Tom Bromberger
