Foam Heel & Elbow Pads - Covered

Foam Hell & Elbow Pad Video
Item # 140C (With Cover)

Used in many hospitals and nursing homes to help prevent decubitus ulcers. This product can be used in many different departments such as: Geriatric, Stroke, Orthopaedic, Post-Operative, Intensive Care, H.I.V., Diabetic, Podiatry, Hospice Care, Heart Failure, Multiple Sclerosis, Burns Unit Etc.

The Convoluted Foam Heel and Elbow Pads with Slippery Outer Cover Item 140C allows restless patients to move their feet around in bed, without shearing their heels. The covers help to prevent the ‘Pads’ coming off or riding up the leg, as they do not stick to the bed sheets.

The new design does not have any stitching under the heel, the foot or the toes. This means it can be put on the foot either way, without any stitching touching the heel. We have also included some ventilation holes on both sides of the heel to increase the air flow around the enclosed foot. Another feature is some extra foam under the Velcro Strap to try to stop the strap from touching the top of the foot.

On many feet the foam can overlap before doing up the Velcro tape or if the patient has swollen feet and the Velcro is near the top of the foot some disposable wadding can be placed under the Velcro.

The All Foam design Item 140 is normally used for patients under anaesthetic who do not move their feet. These can be for single patient use or machine washed and reused.

Some advantages of these products are:

1) Soft convoluted inside surface with ventilation holes near heel, helps air to circulate around the foot.
2) Large enough to protect the ankles & both sides of the feet.
3) Simple and quick to fit with a Velcro strap.
4) One size to fit small to large feet.
5) Low cost but long life, can be washed and reused - see below.

Why change a design after 20 years?

The design of our Convoluted Foam Heel and Elbow Pad is over 20 years old. They are used in many hospitals and nursing homes through Australia.

The original design is sewn together with stitching under the sole of the foot, so the stitching will not be under the patient’s heel. We include our Pelican label in the seam, and in the instructions we state that when fitting the Pads, the Pelican label should be under the toes of the patient, so it can be seen when the patient is wearing them. However it is possible to put them on the wrong way, and place the label under the heel. If they are put on the wrong way there is still some foam to protect the heel, but someone with a heavy foot may touch the stitching in the seam.

Washing for both styles: Hand or machine wash, up to 80°C. Cool tumble dry or air dry.
