Sheepskin - Full Skin Medical

Medical Sheepskins are prepared from specially selected sheepskins which are treated according to the Australian Wool Corporation standards for medical sheepskins. These sheepskins have dense springy wool fibres which help support the body and allow air flow. This can keep the patient cool in summer and warm in winter. The sheepskin can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water without feeling wet. These features make the sheepskin comfortable and help prevent bed sores.
Medical Sheepskin is good for patients who are required to spend long periods sitting or lying down, as well as for babies and infants. The sheepskins can be used on beds, in chairs or cut up for Heel and Elbow Pads. The sizes indicated may vary, as individual sheep may vary in size!
Washing: Use pure soap or a recommended wool detergent. Gently hand wash in warm water, maximum 5 minutes. Rinse twice in lukewarm water, 3 minutes each time. Do not wring, shake the sheepskin vigorously to raise the wool fibres. Dry flat in the shade, or on a line.
If the sheepskin has been soaked with urine, it should be rinsed with cold water as soon as possible, then washed as above. This sheepskin may be dry-cleaned. Specialist suede and leather cleaners generally include re-texturing with cleaning to reduce any loss of softness. Air well after dry-cleaning.
This product is to help with the prevention of pressure sores. Sometimes, due to the patient deteriorating, the product may become unsuitable. Continuous monitoring is necessary and alternative products may be recommended.
