Many chairs for elderly patients are covered in a wipeable vinyl type of material, to make it easier for cleaning. As these materials do not breathe, the people sitting or lying in the chairs may become hot and perspire. Quite often the Carers place cotton sheets inside the chairs, but these are very large and may bunch up or drape over the sides of the chair, making the patient look undignified. To make fitted covers for the chairs is very expensive and due to the many different designs of chairs, the covers may not fit correctly.
The Pelican Chair Pad is made from a special foam that is strong enough to withstand commercial washing, but is breathable and allows air to flow freely through it. The material cover is designed with micro-holes to allow perspiration to easily pass through, so when combined with the foam, the Chair Pad will provide a comfortable liner that will help insulate the patient from the vinyl chair cover. The foam also keeps the pad in place, as it will cling to the chair and unless the patient is moving a lot, the Chair Pad will not get creased under patients.
A separate medical wool overlay can be used on top of this product is neccessary.
Also ask about the special Lifting Sling with Chair Pressure Pad. The Hammock Sling with Chair Pad, Item 570CP, combines a lifting sling with the pad sewn into position. This product is to help with the prevention of pressure sores. Sometimes, due to the patient deteriorating, the product may become unsuitable. Continuous monitoring is necessary and alternative products may be recommended.
Washing: Hand or machine wash only, up to 80°C. Cool tumble dry or air dry only. Do not wring.
