Chair Wedge Anti-Slide

Chair Wedge Anti-Slide Video
Item # 446

This product can be used as a ‘non-restraint’ item to help prevent patients from sliding off chairs. This wedge cushion has a layer of convoluted foam on top to make a softer more comfortable cushion, and a firmer wedge foam below. Four ties are provided to secure the cushion to a chair.

When in use, ensure the patient’s feet reach the ground or footplates, if in a wheelchair. Do not leave the feet dangling above the floor. We recommend using a Pelican Leg Support, Item 120, a foot stool that prevents pressure on the heels and prevents footdrop.

This product is an alternative to our Sit Slide & Stand Pad. The Sit, Slide & Stand Pad is used to slide a patient’s hips to the back of the chair and as it only slides in one direction the patient should not slide off the chair. The webbing handles can also be used to help the patient stand up when transferring.

For more active patients the Chair Belt for Sliders, is recommended as this will allow the patient to twist, turn, move their legs, but will stop them from sliding or standing.

WARNING - Only use a Safety Belt or Restraint if all other alternatives have been tried. Ensure Restraint Authorisation has been obtained. Restrained patients should be kept under observation, as their behaviour may alter and another restraint may be more appropriate. Restraints are a prescribed item. The wrong restraint or the correct restraint incorrectly fitted can cause injury or death.

This product is to help with the prevention of pressure sores. Sometimes, due to the patient deteriorating, the product may become unsuitable. Continuous monitoring is necessary and alternative products may be recommended.

Washing: Remove cover to hand or machine wash only, up to 80°C. Do not tumble dry or wring - air dry only.

This item may be of interest if you are concerned with falls prevention for aged care.
